Today, Rep. Dean Phillips (MN-03) celebrates 100 days in Congress. These first 100 days have seen a number of significant accomplishments and fulfilled promises.
“One hundred days in I can say it with confidence: this is the most gratifying job I have ever had,” said Phillips. “At the end of the day this work is all about people, and we have worked hard to be available, accessible, and transparent. Not only has our Democratic Majority delivered for the people, we have worked across the aisle to restore collaboration to a Congress that desperately needs it. Thank you to everyone who has helped make these first 100 days a success. I could not be more optimistic for our future.”
Here’s a recap of accomplishments from Phillips’s first 100 days:
Joined the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus for a meeting with President Trump on a path to ending the government shutdown. The Caucus’ proposed solution of a three week continuing resolution to re-open the government was adopted by the White House to end the shutdown.
Co-led the Shutdown to End All Shutdowns (SEAS) Act to prevent government workers from being used as pawns in future negotiation breakdowns between Congress and the White House.
Co-sponsored and voted for the passage of the Bipartisan Background Checks Act to close the gun show loophole and institute universal background checks on gun purchases, the first meaningful gun violence prevention measure to pass the House in more than 20 years.
Authored three amendments that were included in H.R. 1, the For The People Act, an historic package of ethics, voting rights and campaign finance reforms that loosen the grip of special interests on our politics. Phillips’s amendments would strengthen the Federal Election Commission and tighten lobbying restrictions for Executive Branch officials.
Successfully worked with the White House on an extension of Deferred Enforced Departure status (DED) for Liberian refugees.
Convened MN-03 mayors, public school superintendents, county commissioners and police chiefs for conversations on how we can better work together for our community.
