Rep. Dean Phillips offered the following statement today after President Trump announced that he will accept to a continuing resolution to end the longest shutdown in American history: “The President’s agreement to sign a three week continuing resolution to re-open the government, as I advocated for at the White House last week, is an important first step toward breaking this unnecessary impasse. Now it’s up to members of both parties to come to the table to negotiate a comprehensive approach to border security that uses 21st century solutions for 21st century problems and a creates a permanent solution for our broken immigration system that includes protections for DACA, TPS and DED recipients. I look forward to continuing those conversations with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle. Meanwhile, we must not forget the human toll that shutting down the government takes on our communities, and we should do everything in our power to make sure that it never happens again.” ### |
