Youth Advisory Council

Congressman Dean Phillips’s Youth Advisory Council is an annual opportunity for high school students to engage with their peers and learn how policy can transform our nation. As members of the Council, students will learn more about Minnesota’s Third District, Congress, and the world at large. Students will work collaboratively on a comparative politics research project, examining how policies are implemented in countries around the world.  The culmination of their work will be a presentation of findings and reccomendations to the congressman and his staff in August.

The Youth Advisory Council is open to students living or attending school in Minnesota's Third Congressional District who will be in grades 9-12 as of September 2022. Students are expected to attend two-three meetings with the full Council, and several meetings with their groups to coordinate and track the progress of their research throughout the Summer. This year’s council will be live, with flexibility to move remotely if needed.

To apply, students must fill out our application form and write a one-page cover letter explaining why they would like to join the Council to Johnny Tvedt at johnny.tvedt@mail.house.gov. The application deadline is Sunday, May 30, 2022.
