PHILLIPS VOTES AGAINST BIDEN IMPEACHMENT INQUIRY

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today Rep. Dean Phillips (MN-03) voted to reject the Republican impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden. He released the following statement:

“Today, House Republicans voted to open a politically biased impeachment inquiry against the President of the United States. This inquiry involves unsubstantiated claims that President Biden used his position to financially benefit himself and his family and to protect his son, Hunter Biden.

Our Founding Fathers bestowed necessary checks and balances to ensure that Congress had the power to hold federal officials accountable. However, removal of an official via impeachment is an extraordinary undertaking meant only for the serious offenses of ‘Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.’

Based on all the evidence presented by House Republicans in their myriad investigations into President Biden so far, I believe the only crime President Biden is guilty of is being a loving father.

As part of my mission to restore faith in government, I believe it is important that we hold government officials to the highest possible ethical standards. But we should not undermine the legitimate impeachment proceedings to gain a political advantage.

While I will maintain an open mind should real evidence of wrongdoing on President Biden’s part be uncovered, I will not support impeaching a president over lies and falsehoods.”
