Did you miss our Dial-In?

Yesterday, more than 5,000 Minnesotans joined the conversation on my fourth Dial-In with Dean, and more than 150 people shared ideas, questions, and criticisms. Dr. Michael Osterholm, the Director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, joined in for a discussion about the pandemic and our government’s response, including the potential fourth COVID-19 relief package. We covered a lot of ground from small businesses to schools, health care to unemployment, slowing the spread of COVID-19, and what Congress should do next to support American workers and families during this pandemic. 

While we wait for six people to negotiate a long overdue relief package behind closed doors in Washington, I want you to know how disgusted I am by the lack of leadership on both sides. I always say that representation begins with listening – to you, not those leaders in Washington - so I would like to hear what you think about one of the most-debated components of the next COVID-19 relief package:

Do you support extending the $600 federal payments to unemployed Americans during the COVID-19 pandemic?

No matter the outcome of these negotiations, I believe that most Americans desire the same outcomes: a secure country and safe and healthy communities, educational and economic opportunity for all, equity and justice under the law, a healthy planet, efficient use of tax dollars, and the freedom to pursue our dreams. And across the aisle, my colleagues and I intend to unify, amplify, and rectify. It won’t be easy, it won’t be fast, and it won’t be appreciated by those that cling to power. But it is possible if you join us and keep the faith. 

I look forward to one day being able to gather for in-person town halls again, until then, I’ll keep finding new ways to stay in touch and hope you’ll do the same.
